On Wednesday, March 29th, we had the pleasure of welcoming Professor Kai Lehmann (University of São Paulo) as an invited professor to the Rio School on Global Governance, Democracy and Human Rights, an activity organised by the FGV Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence on EU-South America Global Governance, co-funded by the European Commission under the Erasmus+ Programme.

Professor Kai Lehmann gave a lecture about the topic "Challenges and Opportunities for Multilateralism: The consequences of the war in Ukraine".

During the lecture, he addressed the topic of multilateralism which has been widely believed to be a key factor in preventing wars and promoting peace. However, the recent war in Ukraine has exposed weaknesses in this approach. Professor Lehmann explored what the current events mean for multilateralism in the future, and what can be done to adapt multilateralism to the new security scenario.
