On August 17th 2022, the EU-South American School on Global Governance, organised by the FGV Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence on EU-South America Global Governance, funded by the European Commission, had the pleasure of hosting Professor Jan Wouters from the Leuven Centre for Global Governance Studies at KU Leuven for the inaugural class of the course.

During the lecture titled "The European Union's Promotion of Human Rights Abroad: The Case of Latin America and the Caribbean," Professor Wouters presented an overview of the EU's external promotion of human rights. He specifically focused on the tools utilised by the European Union and the structural challenges encountered in the Latin American and Caribbean region.

The students and attendees were captivated by Professor Wouters' insightful presentation, which provided a historical context and shed light on the complexities of promoting human rights in the region. The lecture sparked engaging discussions and enhanced participants' understanding of the EU's efforts in advocating for human rights globally.

The lecture aimed primarily at students enrolled in the EU-South American School on Global Governance. However, a limited number of seats were also made available for the general public to participate in the event.
