Law of the Sea Litigation (ITLOS)

Miriam Cohen

University of Montreal

March 13th, Professor Miriam Cohen (Université de Montréal Faculty of Law) delivered a lecture as an invited professor at the Rio Course on Regional and International Dispute Settlement (Rio CRIDS), an activity organized by the FGV Centre of Excellence on EU-Latin America Global Challenges, co-funded by the European Union under the Erasmus+ Programme.

Professor Miriam’s lecture concerned “Law of the Sea Litigation (ITLOS)” and delved into discussions on the jurisdiction of the Tribunal of the Sea through contentious cases and advisory opinions.

Professor Miriam presented important insights regarding the protection of the public interest by advisory opinions, notably the interaction between human rights and the Law of the Sea.

Following the lecture, students actively participated in the debates and discussed the concepts presented in class.

We would like to thank Professor Miriam for sharing her time and expertise with us and we look forward to strengthening our collaboration.
