Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law / University of Bristol
Today, March 20th, Professor Achilles Skordas, emeritus at the University of Bristol, UK, and Senior Research Affiliate at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law in Heidelberg, delivered a lecture as an invited professor at the Rio Course on Regional and International Dispute Settlement (Rio CRIDS), an activity organized by the FGV Centre of Excellence on EU-Latin America Global Challenges, co-funded by the European Union under the Erasmus+ Programme.
The lecture given by Professor Skordas, “The Politics of International Arbitration and Adjudication”, explored the legal and political strategies applied by States in international judicial proceedings, notably before the International Court of Justice and their challenges.
Professor Skordas discussed the Ukrainian-Russian cases and the Application of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide in the Gaza Strip (South Africa v. Israel).
The lecture provided valuable insights into the legal and political debate surrounding the claims.
We would like to express our gratitude to Professor Skordas for sharing his time and expertise with us.
We look forward to further collaboration.
