On 8 December 2025, the Centre for Global Law (CPDG) and the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence on EU-LA Global Challenges (CEJM), co-funded by the European Union under the Erasmus+ programme, participated in the event Brazil–EU: Strategic Cooperation in a Changing World, organized by FGV Europe at FGV Headquarters in Rio de Janeiro.

The event was opened by Sara Pais and featured keynote addresses by Ana Miguel Pedro, Member of the European Parliament, Carlos Ivan Simonsen Leal, President of Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV), and Professor Paula Wojcikiewicz Almeida, Director of CPDG and CEJM.

Professor Paula Wojcikiewicz Almeida delivered the lecture “The Challenges of the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) and its Impact in Brazil”, presenting the main findings of an empirical research project developed by CPDG and CEJM. The presentation examined the indirect implementation of the European Union Deforestation-Free Regulation (EUDR) in Brazil, with particular emphasis on its implications for the Brazilian coffee sector. It highlighted the principal legal, regulatory, and practical challenges identified by the research, contributing to broader discussions on sustainable trade, environmental governance, and Brazil–EU regulatory cooperation.

Held at FGV Headquarters, the event brought together students, researchers, professors, institutional leaders, and members of the FGV academic community to foster dialogue on the future of Brazil–European Union relations in a rapidly evolving global landscape. CPDG and CEJM expressed their gratitude to Cesar Cunha Campos and Sara Pais of FGV Europe for the invitation and the opportunity to contribute to this important discussion.
