On 24 July 2025, the Centre for Global Law (CPDG) and the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence on EU–Latin America Global Challenges (CEJM), co-funded by the European Union, hosted a closed-session debate titled “Legal Aspects of Reforestation” via Microsoft Teams.

The discussion examined the legal dimensions of reforestation policies in Brazil, with particular emphasis on the indirect implementation of the European Union Deforestation-Free Regulation (EUDR). The event formed part of a broader research initiative aimed at producing a policy recommendation document to be presented to states, international organizations, and stakeholders at the 2025 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30) in Belém, Brazil.

The session opened with the presentation of key research findings by Professor Paula Wojcikiewicz Almeida (CPDG and CEJM), focusing in particular on the coffee sector and its regulatory implications under the evolving sustainability framework. The presentation was followed by expert commentary from Professors José Eduardo Faria (University of São Paulo), Roldan Muradian (Federal University of Fluminense), and Luciana Gambi (University of São Paulo), who provided critical feedback and suggestions to strengthen the analysis.
