Conflitos Militares e a Ordem Internacional
Simpósio de Pesquisa da FGV, FGV Direito São Paulo, São Paulo
On August 22nd 2022, Professor Paula Wojcikiewicz Almeida had the honour of participating as a discussant in the Symposium of Applied Research at Fundação Getulio Vargas in São Paulo. The symposium featured esteemed guests, including Professor Evandro Menezes de Carvalho from FGV Direito Rio, and was moderated by Professor Oliver Stuenkel from the International Relations department at FGV SP. The focus of the round-table discussion was "Military Conflicts and the International Order," with a specific emphasis on the impact of the war in Ukraine on both the international and national spheres.
Following an insightful keynote speech delivered by invited professor Jan Wouters from the Leuven Centre for Global Governance Studies and the Institute for International Law, Professor Almeida provided brief remarks on the challenges posed by Russia's aggression towards Ukraine within the framework of international law. She explored how this aggression has tested existing political and legal mechanisms and proposed potential alternatives to overcome impasses and ensure the protection of community interests in cases involving mass atrocities.
Engaging in a fruitful discussion with distinguished colleagues was a truly enjoyable experience for Professor Almeida.
