On December 18, the FGV Centre for Global Law (CPDG), in partnership with the FGV Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence on EU–Latin America Global Challenges (CEJM), co-funded by the European Union under the Erasmus+ Programme and both directed by Professor Paula Wojcikiewicz Almeida, welcomed Benedetta Arrighini for another edition of CPDG Dialogues.

Benedetta Arrighini is a PhD candidate and Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Fellow in International and European Law under the GEM-DIAMOND Programme. She holds a law degree from the University of Trento, an LL.M. in European Law from the College of Europe (Bruges), and is qualified to practice law in Italy. Her academic and professional experience includes internships at the European Parliament and work with the think tank Osservatorio Balcani Caucaso Transeuropa. Her doctoral research is supervised by Professors Anne Weyembergh (Université libre de Bruxelles), Paula Wojcikiewicz Almeida (FGV Rio Law), and Rossella Sabia (LUISS Guido Carli).

In her lecture, Unpacking the EU–Mercosur Agreement: a Turning Point or a Rushed Move?, Benedetta Arrighini examined the latest developments surrounding the EU–Mercosur Association Agreement, following the conclusion of negotiations after more than two decades. The presentation explored the legal and political significance of the Agreement, reflecting on its potential impact for interregional cooperation between the European Union and Mercosur, as well as the challenges associated with its implementation and ratification.

The lecture was followed by an engaging discussion with participants, who explored the broader implications of the Agreement for international trade, sustainable development, and EU–Latin America relations.
