Global South participation and narratives in ITLOS Advisory Proceeding on Climate Change
The lecture was attended by both undergraduate and graduate law students from Sorbonne Law School, University Paris 1, alongside esteemed professors Jean-Marc Sorel and Paolo Palchetti. Their participation enriched the discussion, fostering a collaborative environment for exploring the intricate dynamics of political and legal narratives from Global South countries, at the insection between international law and politics.
On 23 October 2024, Professor Paula Wojcikiewicz Almeida, Director of the Centre for Global Law and the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence, co-funded by the European Union under the Erasmus+ programme, delivered a lecture on ‘Global South participation and narratives in ITLOS Advisory Proceeding on Climate Change’ at the University of Paris 1 Sorbonne.
The lecture presented the research conducted in partnership with Professor Jean-Marc Sorel, from the Sorbonne Law School, University Paris 1, who is also a member of the IREDIES, (Institut de recherche en droit international et européen de la Sorbonne).
Professor Paula’s lecture directed special attention to methodology applied for the the construction of narratives from Global South countries in the context of climate change. This analysis was grounded in the examination of the written submissions made by these States to the ITLOS advisory opinion on climate change.

The event was organised by Professor Jean-Marc Sorel, under the auspices of the IREDIES which is currently directed by Professor Sophie Robin-Olivier, seconded by Professor Laurence Dubin.
