From June 16 to 20, 2025, Professor Paula Wojcikiewicz Almeida, Director of the Centre for Global Law (CPDG) and the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence on EU–Latin America Global Challenges, co-funded by the European Commission under the Erasmus+ Programme, at FGV Direito Rio, and CPDG researcher Vitor Furtado De Melo participated in the PhD Summer School jointly organized by iCourts – Centre of Excellence for International Courts and the Centre of Excellence for Global Mobility Law (MOBILE) at the University of Copenhagen.

The programme brought together advanced PhD researchers and faculty members to engage with cutting-edge methodologies in empirical legal research. Morning sessions were dedicated to methodological training, covering both quantitative and qualitative approaches, while afternoon workshops focused on participants’ individual doctoral projects.

Professor Almeida contributed as coordinator of one of the working groups, while Vitor Furtado De Melo participated as a doctoral researcher. Across the sessions, participants explored a wide range of empirical tools for socio-legal analysis, including mixed-methods research, textual analysis, ethnographic approaches, and experimental designs, strengthening methodological rigor in contemporary international legal scholarship.

The experience fostered a highly collaborative academic environment and meaningful exchanges on the role of empirical methods in the study of international courts, transnational legal orders, and global governance.
