iCourts Lunch Seminar - LATIN TALES
Faculty of Law and Governance, University of Copenhagen, Copenhagen, Denmark.
On June 24, Paula Sant'Ana Strogoff, researcher at FGV Rio Law’s Center for Global Law (CPDG) and Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence (CEJM) — co-funded by the European Union under the Erasmus+ programme —, presented preliminary findings from the research project “LATIN TALES – Tales from Latin American States in Advisory Proceedings before the International Court of Justice” in a seminar at iCourts (Centre of Excellence for International Courts at the University of Copenhagen). The study is coordinated by Professor Paula Wojcikiewicz Almeida, director of the CPDG and CEJM.
The seminar was part of Paula’s research stay at iCourts, which was funded by the Brazilian National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq - Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico). During her talk, Paula presented an overview of the theoretical framework and methodological approach of the project, which examines the underlying logic of legal arguments advanced by Latin American states in advisory proceedings before the International Court of Justice, as well as the context and motivations shaping their engagement with the Court. Then, she shared the main findings from the semi-structured interviews conducted by CPDG’s team with key actors from the proceedings. The presentation was followed by a stimulating Q&A with researchers and professors.
During her research stay, Paula also attended the iCourts / MOBILE PhD Summer School, a program focusing on interdisciplinary and empirical approaches to legal research.
We sincerely thank iCourts director, Professor Mikael Rask Madsen, for hosting the seminar and for the warm welcome extended to Paula in Copenhagen, as well as to the entire iCourts academic community for their thoughtful engagement and participation in the seminar. We look forward to further collaboration.
