In-House Research Seminar: Sociological Approaches to the LATIN TALES Project

On June 12, the FGV Centre for Global Law (CPDG) and the FGV Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence on EU-LA Global Challenges (CEJM), co-funded by the European Union under the Erasmus+ Programme and both directed by Professor Paula Wojcikiewicz Almeida, held an In-House Research Seminar dedicated to the ongoing development of the LATIN TALES research project.
The seminar featured presentations by CPDG researchers Vitor Furtado De Melo and João Felipe Moreira Lopes Ortega Terra, who presented the latest developments of their research under the supervision of Professor Paula Wojcikiewicz Almeida. The session focused on advancing the project's theoretical and methodological framework, which examines the narratives advanced by Latin American States before the International Court of Justice.
The presenters introduced the main arguments of their ongoing work, discussing preliminary findings and the conceptual foundations of their research. Particular attention was given to the sociological approaches to international adjudication that inform the LATIN TALES project, exploring how these perspectives contribute to understanding the construction of State narratives, the role of legal actors, and the dynamics of litigation before the International Court of Justice. The discussion also addressed the structure of the project's chapters and the integration of recent findings into the broader research agenda.
Following the presentations, researchers from the Centre for Global Law (CPDG) and the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence (CEJM) provided comments and suggestions aimed at strengthening both the theoretical framework and the analytical development of the study. The seminar concluded with an engaging Q&A session moderated by Professor Paula Wojcikiewicz Almeida, fostering a productive exchange of ideas on the progress and future directions of the LATIN TALES project.
