On 21 October 2025, Lucas Vollers, Researcher at the FGV Centre for Global Law (CPDG) and Visiting Researcher at the Institut de recherche en droit international et européen (IREDIES) of Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, presented the second phase of the LATIN TALES research project during a seminar delivered in French and moderated by Professor Patrick Jacob.

The presentation focused on LATIN TALES ICJ, an interdisciplinary research project coordinated by Professor Paula Wojcikiewicz Almeida, Director of the FGV Centre for Global Law (CPDG) and the FGV Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence on EU–South America Global Governance (CEJM), co-funded by the European Union under the Erasmus+ programme. The project investigates the narratives advanced by Latin American states in selected advisory proceedings before the International Court of Justice concerning issues of community interest.

Drawing on a mixed-methods approach that combines corpus linguistics, discourse analysis, and semi-structured interviews, the research examines how states articulate political objectives through legal argumentation before the Court. Particular attention is devoted to identifying convergences and divergences in the collective narratives of Latin American states regarding issues such as climate change, human rights, and other matters of global concern.

The seminar generated a productive academic discussion with researchers and PhD candidates from Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, providing valuable feedback for the ongoing development of the project. The event reinforced the collaboration between the FGV Centre for Global Law and IREDIES and contributed to advancing interdisciplinary research on international adjudication, state narratives, and foreign legal policy.
