On the occasion of the 50th Organization of American States (OAS) Course on International Law, Professor Paula Wojcikiewicz Almeida, Director of the FGV Centre for Global Law, co-funded by the European Union under the Erasmus+ Programme, participated in receptions for Professor Dapo Akande and Ambassador François Alabrune, official candidates from the United Kingdom and France for the election of a judge to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) for the 2027–2036 term.

Professor Akande, Chichele Professor of Public International Law and Fellow at All Souls College, University of Oxford, is a widely published scholar in international law and regularly advises international organisations, including the United Nations Security Council and the Council of Europe’s Committee of Legal Advisers on Public International Law.

Ambassador François Alabrune, former Legal Adviser to the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, has extensive experience before international courts and tribunals, including the ICJ, the European Court of Human Rights, and the Court of Justice of the European Union. He currently serves as French Ambassador to the Netherlands, engaging with international judicial institutions based in The Hague.

The participation of the FGV Centre for Global Law highlighted its continued engagement with leading figures in international law and its commitment to contributing to global legal dialogue and institutional networks.
