On 23 July 2025, the Centre for Global Law (CPDG) and the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence on EU–Latin America Global Challenges (CEJM), co-funded by the European Union under the Erasmus+ Programme, in partnership with the Institute for Climate and Society (iCS), hosted the webinar “Impact of the EUDR in Brazil: Discussing Challenges, Opportunities and Pathways for Implementation.”

The event was structured in two thematic panels, bringing together academics and practitioners to discuss the implications of the European Union Deforestation-Free Regulation (EUDR) from both international and domestic perspectives.

Panel 1 – “The EUDR under an international perspective: general challenges and opportunities” was moderated by Professor Paula Wojcikiewicz Almeida (Centre for Global Law – FGV Rio Law) and featured presentations by Gabriel Ralile, Roldan Muradian, Simone Hojte, and Matheus Soares Matos. The panel addressed the broader regulatory, legal, and governance challenges arising from the implementation of the EUDR in global supply chains.

Panel 2 – “Discussing the EUDR in Brazil: a debate on practical matters” was moderated by Lucas Vollers (Centre for Global Law – FGV Rio Law) and included presentations by Vitor Furtado De Melo, Bruno Meireles Leite (MAPA), and Gustavo G. Müller (KU Leuven). The discussion focused on practical implementation issues, institutional coordination, and regulatory compliance within the Brazilian context.

The webinar fostered an interdisciplinary exchange on the legal and policy dimensions of the EUDR, highlighting both international governance challenges and country-specific implementation pathways.
